Engineered once, deployable many times.
An expandable container is an ISO 668 shell with hinged side walls that swing or telescope outward on site, tripling the transport footprint into usable floor area. structmod expandable containers ship as standard 40-ft (12.2 m × 2.44 m × 2.59 m) high-cube units — stackable, CSC-plated, sea-freight compatible — and deploy to 7.32 m wide by 12.2 m long via synchronised hydraulic walls. A two-person crew completes deployment in under four hours, from unloading through levelling, wall extension, utility connection and operational handover.
The structural logic is simple: the container floor and roof stay at ISO dimensions; the side walls fold down into floor sections and the opposite walls fold up into ceiling sections; on site, hydraulic rams unfold the floor and ceiling sections outward, and new side walls drop into place at the expanded perimeter. The result is a fully insulated, weather-sealed building with full-height ceilings throughout the expanded area — not a compromise structure where the pop-out zones have lower clearance or limited load capacity. Interior fit-out can run the full length of the expanded building: offices, clinics, classrooms, laboratories, command posts.
structmod expandable containers deliver turnkey to clients who need transportable buildings that ship at ISO rates and deploy at building rates. Typical applications include field offices on remote construction sites, temporary classrooms during school builds, disaster-recovery accommodation, mobile clinics at healthcare outreach campaigns, and pop-up retail or hospitality. Lead time is 8-12 weeks from contract signature for standard configurations. EN 1090 EXC-2 structural steel, EN ISO 3834-3 welding, CE/CPR certification and full CSC plate documentation support international deployment without further approval.
Typical deployment sequence
- Day 0 — ISO container arrives on truck, offloaded by forklift or spreader
- Day 0 — jacks deployed, leveling verified
- Day 0 — hydraulic pop-out walls extended to operating footprint
- Day 0–1 — utility connections and interior equipment configuration
- Day 1 — commissioning and functional test per FAT protocol
- Day 1 — user training and handover with O&M documentation
