Engineered once, deployable many times.
An expandable hospital trailer is a road-deployable hospital module that combines ward beds, triage capability and basic diagnostics in a single trailer unit, with hydraulic pop-out walls expanding the operational floor area to 60-90 m². structmod expandable hospital trailers couple together through shared inter-trailer corridors to form complete field hospital configurations — single trailer for outpost-level care, 4-6 trailer cluster for company-level field hospital, 8-12 trailer cluster for battalion-level Role 2 capability.
Standard configurations include a 4-6 bed ward area with patient monitoring at each bed, triage position at the trailer entrance for clinical screening, treatment bay for stabilisation and minor procedures, basic diagnostic capability (point-of-care lab, x-ray or ultrasound, ECG), nursing station and clean/dirty utility, and supporting clinical infrastructure. Multiple trailers couple through airtight vestibules with environmental conditioning across the full coupled footprint, supporting clinical workflow continuity between specialised trailer functions (one trailer for triage, another for surgery, another for ICU, another for ward).
structmod expandable hospital trailers serve military forward medical units, humanitarian disaster response teams, mass-casualty surge capability for civil emergency services, and regional hospital surge capacity during pandemic or crisis. The trailer-based configuration deploys faster than modular field hospital construction (days vs weeks) and is fully road-mobile for relocation as the operational picture changes. Lead time is 12-16 weeks from contract signature for stock configurations, 14-18 weeks for specialty configurations including ICU, surgical capability, or specific medical equipment integration.
Typical deployment sequence
- Hour 0 — trailer arrives on tow vehicle, positioned and chocked
- Hour 0–1 — stabilizer jacks deployed, leveling verified
- Hour 1–2 — hydraulic walls or slide-outs extended where fitted
- Hour 2–3 — utility connections (power, water, wastewater)
- Hour 3–4 — functional test per FAT protocol
- Hour 4 — operational handover with user training
